LEVI PARHAM, LAUREN BARTH & JESSE AYCOCK
SONGWRITERS IN THE ROUND
THURSDAY, MAY 11 @ 7PM
$20 SUGGESTED DONATION
A native of McAlester, Oklahoma, Parham’s music draws on the rich songwriting traditions of his home state. “Perhaps it’s something in the [Oklahoma] water — the same iron-heavy tap drink that Woody Guthrie sipped on as a young man — that leads to an inherited sense of melody,” said The Bluegrass Situation. “Whatever it is, Levi Parham has it.”
With influences from the worlds of blues, folk, soul, rock and country music, it’s Parham’s “soulful, gritty and tender voice” (The Boot) that brings it all together into a sound that CMT described as “enticing” with “a melancholy feel.”
In June 2016, Parham released an album titled These American Blues that reached #25 on the AMA charts, and was #1 in the EuroAmericana Charts for 2016. No Depression called it “a must have in any music aficionado’s collection” while Elmore Magazine called it “a remarkable feat of musicianship”.
The album marked Parham’s third release, following up his 2014 EP Avalon Drive and his 2013 debut An Okie Opera.
A modern folk singer, captivated with the idealized American West, Lauren Barth is a traditional troubadour of her generation. A guitarist and poet since an early age, her craft is delicately reminiscent of the singer-songwriters of the 1970’s. Lauren’s music nods to the muses – Neal Cassady, Gram Parsons, Big Sur, the California desert, and the many roads that lead from here to there and back again. Her delicate finger-picking and sweet songs of love and loss bring a style that lies somewhere between Nashville and Laurel Canyon, western swing and psychedelia.
Jesse Aycock is a singer / songwriter from Tulsa, OK that has built a strong fan base nationally and internationally. Highly-respected by his peers as well, Neal Casal, guitarist for Chris Robinson Brotherhood and Ryan Adams & The Cardinals recently had this to say, “I’ve known Jesse a long time. He’s great. He’s one of those guys who really deserves more recognition.”
His music is sweeping with beautiful melodies, old school tones, and lyrical depth that is remarkable for someone his age. His style touches on everything from traditional folk, psychedelic, country, and early rock, which makes him appealing to a wide audience.
