The Sextet performs music for you to move to and be moved by. Their music combines the harmonic and structural elements of jazz with the groove and feel of funk and soul music. The result is music for your brain and your booty.
Instrumentation includes trumpet, tenor sax, trombone, guitar, electric bass and drums
Jerusafunk is Phoenix’s first and only Klezploitation band! Conceived in 2010 by Chris Del Favero (guitar) and Jessie Demaree (clarinet), the ten-piece ensemble seamlessly blends traditional Klezmer with American Funk and other world music genres such as Jazz, Salsa, Mambo, Samba, Bossa Nova, Cumbia, and Afrobeat. Phoenix New Times says, “Jerusafunk is not only one of the most original bands in town, it’s one of the most fun.” Jerusafunk’s will be releasing their new self-produced album, The Hierophant, June 2017 with a national tour to follow. They have been working on collaborations with local artists such as The Stakes, and are filming a new music video for their gender-bending blues mambo Jeckyl’s Heckle. Jerusafunk has also assumed the role of music directors and pit band for a live musical presentation of Jim Henson’s Labyrinth called The Goblin King’s City which will make its debut Comicon weekend in Phoenix. Since 2015, Jerusafunk has played events such as The Musical Instrument Museum Festival, Phoenix Comicon, Firefly Music Festival, and the Scottsdale Arts Festival. Jerusafunk has toured the Southwest and plays regularly at Crescent Ballroom, Valley bar and Orpheum Theater Flagstaff with bands such as Phoenix Afrobeat Orchestra, Sunn Trio, The Lique, and Qais Essar.
